Letter from Giant Bear, March 28, 2008.
Friends,
Earlier this week, Mike Larrivee and Giant Bear made the mutual and amicable decision that Mike will no longer tour or record as a member of the group. Mike is a singer, songwriter, musician, and friend of the highest caliber, and while we regret that he will not be a part of our future, we recognize that this parting of the ways is the result of some wonderful--and inevitable--personal and creative growth by all of us.
Mike has been a hugely important part of Memphis' music community for years, most recently with the Ruffin Brown Band, which merged with Okraboy in 2005 to create Giant Bear. His creativity has been an essential part of our sound since the beginning and he has been responsible in myriad ways for the success we currently enjoy. We are deeply proud of the music we made together and have nothing but high hopes and warm wishes for all of Mike's future endeavors, musical and otherwise.
We have just finished a successful Spring tour through the American southeast that culminated in appearance at South By Southwest, as well as a couple of recording sessions at Sun Studios in Memphis. We've got no plans of slowing down now and are looking forward to many more shows, new songs, and lots of new friends throughout the rest of the year as we continue to make music and write the next chapter of Giant Bear. Please keep an eye on our myspace page and website for all the latest news, tunes, and updates.
The music keeps flowing, no matter what, and we couldn't stop it if we tried.
Thank you so much.
Love,
GIANT BEAR

"Sounds like what might happen if Jackson Browne and Drive-By Truckers holed up in a studio with a bottle of brown liquor."
--Post & Courier (Charleston, SC)
"Just when you think Americana might get sucked dry by anemic rejects and coffee-house politesse, the vast synthesizing power of roots music--and the equally wide inspiration of punk--collide in GIANT BEAR."
--Roy Kasten, Riverfront Times, January 30, 2008
"Awesome... one of my surprise favorites of the year." One of the Top 50 Albums of 2007
--Twangville.com
"Gentle, earthy and achingly beautiful... At times churning, at times flowing serenely, [Giant Bear] is a pleasure to hear."
--Daily Times (Knoxville, TN)
"Excellent stuff... it's the 'On The Road' of Americana."
